The Singing Drum.
£50.00 – £60.00
An African legend, of a young girl, her capture and escape from an evil ogre, and the hideous death inflicted on him by the girl’s father. Lots of detailed storytelling, many scenes and atmospheres, and ‘curtain calls’ from the main characters at the end!
Description
Here’s the African tale of an ogre who enslaves a young girl in his drum and forces her to sing when he plays. Villagers, enchanted by his ‘magic’ drum, feed the ogre, but the girl’s parents are there, and hear her voice. They give the ogre beer till he sleeps, steal the drum, rescue their daughter and fill the drum with snakes, biting ants and a swarm of bees. When the ogre wakes and his drum won’t sing, he opens it and is killed by the angry creatures. It’s all here! And in what I think may be a brass band first, the main characters take curtain calls during the feasting at the end!
