The idea is to take the famous medieval tune and do some rather up-do-date things to it. Works well and it didn’t seem to mind.
Description
A funky blast at the beginning leads to the medieval theme. Then the Variations are 1. First Changes. Minimalist, nearly dies completely in the middle, tuba plays wood block; 2. Malcolm Arnold. A jolly march; 3. That’s Heavy. Judas Priest meets Toto. Possibly as far from Greensleeves as you can get; 4. Gymnopédie. Calm, with tension in the middle; 5. Robin Hood. Heroic tune leads to recap of Greensleeves dotted with snippets from all 5 variations. Seems like it’s going to drift off into a peaceful, rural England, but the funk returns to round things off.
